And Quiet Flows the Hudson
Day 4 in NewYork
River Hudson from across the living room. Don't let the tranquility fool you, NewYork is Mumbai - more cleaner, more racially diverse and lesser number of people. If you have been or lived in Mumbai or maybe Tokyo you have seen it all, NewYork is just a different version of the same.

View from the Balcony

the river runs outside the window
sauntering through generations
there has always been a crowd
hurrying by, different faces,
different guises. Sometimes
the stone quarries grew on the sides
or the trees took over,

then came the condo towers. I,
sit in one of them, ponder
from my high perch about the flow
of life, river and all things inbetween
kids sprout up, trains blaze thru'
people sport dark city coats, read
about their days before they happen
in content-lite page-rich newspapers
co-ordinate hours and seconds to the dot

I sit back and watch the pagent go by
on pursuit of things
just-out-of-reach. Where to?
To what end? I lie back,
I can almost feel the river in me.

A Barge on the Hudson

Nice pictures! The houses remind me of my cousin's place in New Jersey - don't we all have a cousin in New Jersey?! :)

As some of my friends might say, all cosmopolitan cities are isomorphic, eh? Hope you aren't saying such things to New Yorkers :-) ......

Nice pics, and nice verse, too.

Yes you are right about cosmopolitan cities. I did voice this comment to NewYorkers who gave me room and board and they threw their hands up in the air and said that every TDH seems to have "opinions" about NYC after just a day of stay.

No, i was merely rephrasing your opinion - personally, i feel that while there are some undeniable similarities to be found in most cosmopolitan cities, to call them versions of each other is to trivialise :-)

So what's a TDH?

Tom Dick and Harry. The biggest cities I have seen in my life are NYC, LA and Mumbai - all of them seemed to be similar in some aspects. LA is a lot different than the other two, but Mumbai and NYC are definitely twins, judua bachche separated in their childhood..hihihi.

It's gorgeous - both the pictures AND the verse...in a rather melancholy way.

I think that, sometimes, we do feel isolation amongst many faces. And yet, solitude also. I know that there are times I need the solitude, and yet, I also need the sense of connection to others at the same time. I felt your poem brought across a sense of isolation amidst so many people; beautifully written. And the photos accentuated its sense of life. Thank you!
