Thanksgiving is a holiday I look forward to, reminds me a lot of Onam (and Onam sadya) back home, both harvest festivals largely devoid of religious connotations. It is the food part of both these holidays that have me counting down days till the big feast. Nowadays if I don't get to go home during Onam I secretly pray there'd be a wedding frenzy during the time I am in Kerala and people would be gracious enough to invite me to each one of them so that I could eat a real Malayali sadya.('am too old to be a wedding crasher anyway.)
Being in an Indian in Alaska(obviously we are a minority here unlike in Bay Area or Dallas) has it advantages and Thanksgiving is one of them. Americans want the foreigners (us) to experience the best of American tradition and during the half decade we've been in Alaska we have been unfailingly invited to family thanksgivings or like the last couple of years to potluck Thanksgiving dinner with friends. Although I don't favor turkey during the rest of the year - Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce is almost holy to me. Hope you all gave thanks to bounties of life and celebrated these happy hours to the fullest. Lamb biriyani, the only 'non-native' dish in the picture was N's contribution to the feast, modeled on Malabar Mutton Biriyani(mutton substituted with lamb):-) All I can say after yesterday is, it's good to be alive and be able to eat(especially when you don't even have to cook.)
