Denali Highway
Denali Highway is the Route 66 of Alaska. Once the main thoroughfare through the untamed wilderness of Alaska, now virtually abandoned to hunters and wild-game after the new highways replaced it in the early seventies. Currently it is a gravelly pot-holed 135 mile road from Paxson to Cantwell, traveled by a few. It is closed(you can still travel, but at your own risk) from Oct 1 to mid-may.

An 'Alaskan' pond. On the Denali Highway somewhere near Cantwell

This is not the most scenic part of the Denali Highway, it is just one of the numerous lakes/ponds that dot either sides of the highway. It just happened to catch my eye on one of our rest stops on the way. It is a beautiful road, a piece of real Alaska you can experience on four wheels, if you trust your wheels.

(Click here for a detailed mile by mile description of Points of Interest along the Denali highway. Not many guide books cover this road.)

Pretty. The clouds make it dark, though.

Oh yeah must be fun, Denali is exploding with fall colors. I tried taking panos keeping in mind the tips you gave me and a borrowed tripod. From the results it looks like I should download the rebel xt manual and read it first :P

Did you use the software to merge the frames?

Yes I did, CS2's photomerge, then sometime some manual adjustment inside the photomerge window. Because in some pictures although I had kept my aperture constant, camera used different shutter speeds like 1/22 and 1/20 and there is this diagonal line that appears in the merged picture, that's why I said I should have read the manual(will have to download it now) to keep both aperture and shutter speed locked. Not all pics though, some came out ok. But it was a good exercise :)

This is lovely. Would you mind if I used this photograph as a guide for a painting?

Hmm, if you'd had a child who was growing while you were gorwing as well, life might have been a little too interesting :-)

So I say let the kids grow, and hopefully we can grow in other ways than the strictly physical.

I've been fine, just insanely busy, and also travelling a lot.
