Do You Have Two Personas?
(My)REAL LIFE PERSONA: I am the proverbial shy-guy, who in this case is really a girl (I like the rhyme of shy-guy thats why). Not much of a mixer, the farthest I can go is to be an introverted-extrovert on extremely sunny days. The voice inside my head reminds me that I don’t usually get along with(or like) 90% of the people out there, and I am always in search of the other 10% - truly (madly and deeply). Coming from an all-girl family I used to be the man-of-the-house in waiting, having had extensive experience in fixing faucets, climbing trees, reading newspapers and ordering other people about. All that has gone to waste since the title has passed on to my husband, now I am in the blissful state of married martyrdom. More of a bread-maker than a bread-winner, yeah, you get the idea.

(My)LJ PERSONA: Currently I am an aggressive friend-maker, an incessant talker and an intermittent poster. The rest, depending on my run-ins with other LJ-ers could range from rosy to nosy or from boring to daring.

I believe that many of us have two different personas, as an LJ-er(or more generally – an online persona) and as a real life person. Or are you one and the same, on and off-line? If you feel free to discuss about yourselves, do comment.

You're right about the twin personas. Often online, we can say (write) stuff that sometimes we wouldn't say to people in the offline world. And what's interesting is that you can share opinions, be a voyeur or simply observe, without really 'knowing' the people behind the username. For me...I think I am an extrovert in the sense that I love meeting people, observing them and making friends in real life and I think I carry that forward to my online persona too. I understand your aggression in making friends on LJ...I seem to find LJers a lot more interesting than most people one meets in real life and to think that you have the choice to carry forward a conversation or ignore someone at a click of the mouse is sure liberating!

I had a similar impression about you from your posts. You sure are right, LJ-ers are more interesting than most people you meet in real life!

And I think you're the kind who once you take a liking to someone, will be most supportive and stick by them like a rock. Ain't I right?

Oh this is easy. I have a feeling I come across as cleverer and more engaging than I'm in real life.

Thou, a CETian shalt be awesome offline too. Saw at your homepage that you are a film actor too, what could be more engaging? ;)

My real-life and reel-life personae(does the word exist??) seem to have intermingled rather too well. I find myself rather puerile, curious, empathetic(and sympathetic too) mostly... If you'd meet someone and ask them about me, they'd probably add bubbly and enthusiastic to the list.(In fact, my slam book in college contained so many versions of bubbly and effervescent... felt like some bottle of spirits..:-)

Groping endlessly in the darkness.... A couple of posts and a couple of meetings.. you'd figure that too.

But yes, I love talking to people... on days and on some, I could gladly bite off their heads... Maybe I am like you, DD...

If you asked me to write in your slam book I'd say you are bubbly, empthetic and enthusiastic - thats the impression I got of you as an Lj-er.
Oh I am not at all a talker, thats why I said I am an 'introverted extrovert' at the best - I am a brooder for most part. Hihi.

I'd say my 'LJ persona'(!?!) reflects a rather limited part of me, but accurately.

Of course, given that even in real life your self-perception can differ wildly from what others think of you, this may not tally with what others think of me on the basis of my LJ.

Good Gawd Rileen, I am scared of meeting the 'full-you'. You must be mind blowing, if this is a limited part!!!

I don't know if I have two personas. I do think that I can be a bit freer online since I'm usually interacting in environments that are controlled around certain interests and i feel that people are more apt to let me be myself. but in both offline and online life i am kind of an extrovert and i take alot of risks reaching out to others. i have lots of acquaintances and every now and then some of those cats stick around and become friends. lucky me. anyway, i think online but it's the same persona, just a bit more liberated.

Yes, I feel the same way too. So you really made friends online and they became real life friends? Hmmm....thats cool.

Oh yes, I'm going to see one of them this weekend. Yeah! In fact I have made friends online and met some of them in person and some of them more than once. In fact, I have had several of them come visit me in Tampa and I have gone to visit them as well. Some non-U.S. places I'd love to visit friends are Canada, Curitiba, Paraná in Brasil, Kerala and the UK.

Bumping into u for the second time- girl how many blogs do you maintain? u r right i guess most of us have two different personas- and are best left to grow in their respectives background..though i am sure most of us do not necesaarily lie or decieve in either roles.
proof: trying to merge the two have been pretty disastrous in many cases- bloggers closing down blogs after they have had a real life meeting..
hey and how are the red streaks stirring up responses??

Saw you blog....coool. I just have 2 blogs, one is just a movie log because I watch too many movies(almost 1 every day) and I do not want to lose track of them. This one is my real journal.
bloggers closing down blogs after real life meeting whoa, that is not very positive!!!

I guess we are more honest on LJ?? In real life, I'd probably observe stuff and keep my opinions to myself...

Nice reading your persona(e)...I liked that bit about playing the man in the family when you were a kid...could relate to that:)

Apart from baking bread, what else do you do? :)

Could relate to both your observations. Apart from baking bread, I work too, though that doesn't contribute much towards home finances, hihi.

I don't think that's important--the financial contribution. It's the job satisfaction and that feeling of doing something productive that matters so much more...:)

Hmm...I try to be nice,kind,polite,funny,warm,playful,thoughtful
both on LJ and real life. But I am of course acting well though! Some times I am caught red-handed...and I promptly lose my friends or relationships. Some kinder souls come back again and fall for the act again!HA!

I have multiple real-life persona's :) Sometimes, I am this sweet little kid, and sometimes I am a little, um, how shall we say this, arrogant *blush* You'be gotta a little bit of that if you have to work with a bunch of techies, at least that's what I have found.

I think there is a bit of arrogance in every geek, although not many of them would admit that as you did.
